Andrew Shearer
Andrew Shearer is standing for the Shetland Council in the May 2012 election because of the need for a Christian voice in public life to promote Christian values.
He was a Highlands and Islands Regional List candidate representing Shetland in the 2007 and 2011 Holyrood elections.
He has been a Christian since 1986 and a Teacher of Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies. Presently he is a Principal Teacher in a Shetland Secondary School.
Andrew comments: “In the past two decades I have seen both a marked decline in an awareness of Bible truths among young people, and an increasing articulation of atheistic beliefs even before they come into contact with secondary education. Education is never neutral. If a void has occurred through neglect of Christian belief and morality in schools, then something will fill this void - this has been secular, non-religious materialism.”
He is married to Jackie and has five children. Andrew says: “I am standing as a list candidate for the Scottish Christian Party for two reasons. First, for the glory of God in proclaiming the Lordship of Christ, even over politics. Secondly, to have opportunity by God’s grace, to offer Good News at a personal and individual level on the doorsteps of people’s homes. There is One that we can trust - the Lord Jesus Christ. There is also hope and freedom from the cynicism of politics through the redeeming and saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
