Can Scotland debate?

13 December 2011

Few people seem aware of the issues at stake in the debate on redefining marriage to include homosexual couples.

Call Kaye, BBC Radio Scotland discussed the subject on 8/12/2011.

The main contributors were a Christian minister, a homosexual man and a spokesman from the Equality Network.

The debate was about the definition and redefinition of marriage.  The presenter Kaye Adams repeatedly asked listeners to email or phone in if they had views other than religious ones.  We waited in vain for any other points raised, and only after forty five minutes did one email mention the effect upon children, but at no stage did they discuss the effects upon the family, schools, health, the law or the economy.  There was one attempt by the minister to introduce the topic of teaching in schools, but this was brushed aside without any attempt to discuss it.

The comprehensive response by the Scottish Christian Party to the government consultation has had very little notice taken of it by the main-line media to whom it has been sent.  The truth appears to be that the less the issues are debated, the better for the lobby who want to keep the discussion to “love, equality and respect” - as defined by themselves.
