Crisis in the institutional church

5 August 2011

What happens when a national church fails a nation?  Who does it serve and who will call it to account?

National churches are meant to serve the nation, but as the servants of Christ, not as the Prime Minister’s poodle.

David Cameron’s dogmatism manifests itself in various ways.  He wants to use foreign aid to force Africa into legalising homosexual practices.  This follows his earlier wish for the Church of England to lead the way in homosexual ordination, but it was the Church of Scotland which obliged him.  Not to be outdone by such manifest departure from the Scripture, the mainstream Protestant Church in the Netherlands has decided that atheistic ministers should continue to serve congregations because such views are too widely shared among church thinkers to singled out individuals.

Our Churches and nations need a new Reformation.  For reformation we need Christian leaders to emerge – in church and in state – who will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Evil triumphs when good men don’t act.
