Interesting developments at the Equality and Human Rights Commission
13 July 2011
Christian concerns at the unequal equalities legislation is beginning to tell upon the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
The Commission is intervening in four legal cases heading for the European Court of Human Rights, believing that British courts have not done enough to defend the rights of Christians. This intervention suggests that the Commission acknowledges the justice of Christian criticisms of the abuse of equalities legislation.
The mood change is seen in the objections by the British Humanist Association and by Stonewall, the homosexual lobby group.
It is an interesting volte-face.
5/8/2011 Disappointing update:
The EHRC is engaged in another U-turn. Last month the commission called for a reasonable accommodation, where possible, for religious believers in the workplace. The homosexual news website, Pink News, now reports a former head of Stonewall who is a current commissioner on the EHRC, saying: “The commission has already decided not to put forward ‘reasonable adjustment’ arguments if we do continue with our intervention.” It demonstrates that the EHRC blows with the wind, and whereas we should be thankful for any softening towards Christianity, it appears that Christians cannot rely upon it.
