Polygamy is already recognised in UK legislation: it is time to close this loophole
17 November 2011
A legal loophole is allowing international law to change the law in the UK.
The traditional and biblical view of marriage has already changed in the UK, and the humanist lobby plans to take it further.
Few people realise that polygamy is already recognised in UK law. A Muslim man with four spouses - which is permitted under Islamic law - could receive £10,000 a year in income support alone. He could also be entitled to more generous housing and council tax benefit, to reflect the fact his household needs a bigger property.
In Scotland, in broad terms, section 38(1) of the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 provides that the question of whether a marriage is valid is determined by the law of the place where the marriage was celebrated. This means that polygamist marriages allowed in muslim countries are recognised as valid in the UK. It means that homosexual ‘marriages’ allowed in other countries will be recognised as valid in Scotland and the UK. The Scottish Government sees no reason to change this and in its consultation on redefining marriage wants to continue this concept to include homosexual partnerships in the definition of marriage. (Consultation Document paragraph 3.45, footnote 10).
Instead of protecting our borders from international law, polygamy and homosexual partnerships from overseas are coming into the UK through this legal loophole more easily than illegal immigrants get through our border controls. So if one country somewhere in the world permits marriage with what we would consider to be an underage child, UK law will recognise this as valid marriage. This drives a coach and horses through our own legislative process, creates anomalies in our law, and undermines our protest against forced marriages abroad.
The domino effect
The dominos are falling. Polygamy is being approved, now the Government wants to redefine marriage to include homosexual partnerships; next will be permitting paedophilia. Tesco plans to sponsor the London Gay Pride march for the second year running, which contains advocates of paedophilia in its ranks.
How paedophilia will be normalised and promoted
1. It begins by promoting children’s rights.
2. Then children’s rights become more important than parental rights. This is already the case, and is another example of the pecking order inherent in our unequal equalities legislation.
3. Then children’s rights will include the right to sexual expression. Already parents have no rights over their children regarding medical advice about sexual behaviour.
4. Then children will be encouraged to explore homosexual experiences during sex education lessons in school.
5. Their sexual rights will be promoted to encourage lowering the age of sexual consent: already advocated by the aggressive wing of the homosexual lobby.
Thus paedophilia will be normalised.
Rather it is time that the humanist agenda was challenged. It is time for Christians to vote to stop the marginalisation of Christianity.
It is time for Christians and the nation to waken up. “Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep” Romans 13:11.
