The Conservative transformation is complete

5 October 2011

David Cameron, the Leader of the Conservative Party, has defined Conservativism as supportive of “gay marriage”.

He reminded the Conference that some years ago he had spoken in support of “gay marriage and you applauded me.”  He continued with the Government’s plan to legalise ‘gay marriage’.  He added: “Yes, it is about equality; but it is also about commitment.”  Then with an air of defiance he asserted: “I do not support gay marriage in spite of being a Conservative.  I support gay marriage because I am a Conservative” (applause).

Earlier in his speech, David Cameron twitted the Labour Party Conference for booing its former leaders, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.  So when it came to this definition of Cameronian Conservativism, the stage was set for an appeal to Conservative instincts of loyalty and the predictable applause which it elicited.  There were no audible boos, but where are the courageous souls or the Christian Conservatives prepared to withstand this definition of a modern Conservative?  It makes the choice for the Christian electorate easier, but what about Christian Conservatives?

If support for legalising homosexual civil partnerships as marriage is of the essence of modern Conservativism, no wonder that Murdo Fraser, Deputy Leader of the Scottish Tories, wants to separate from the Tories and create a new centre-right Party in Scotland.

In his speech David Cameron, speaking of the political left, said: “They practice oppression and call it equality.”  This is exactly the militant homosexual agenda.  We will watch how far Mr Cameron’s toleration goes; he strikes us as an intolerant person.

The Lord Jesus Christ said: “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels” Mark 8:38.
