“A great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and languages stood before the Throne.” Revelation 7:9

God is interested in numbers.  He counts the number of the stars and He names every one of them (Psalm 147:4).  Thus Jesus taught that God knows every individual personally, and to emphasize God’s assessment of human worth He said: “Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Luke 12:7.

Teenage knifing takes place on the premise that life is cheap and expendible.  Militant atheism preaches a nihilistic doctrine which can devalue the worth of human beings.  Rejection of God as Creator has resulted in refining marriage and sexuality, and the attempt to de-Christianize Britain.  The Scottish Christian Party opposes the attitude that each person can manipulate their sexuality at will, and that society has to accept their choice to do so.

1. Referenda

The Scottish Christian Party is in favour of referenda in order to determine the wishes of the people of Scotland in substantive matters including important issues of morality, religious belief and constitutional change.

Whilst noting that constitutional change does not fall within the remit of the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Christian Party will support the call for a referendum on Scottish independence provided that (1) the constitutional position of the Christian Church in Scotland, secured in the Treaty of Union 1707 and subsequent legislation, is not changed de facto by any future Scottish independence and (2) the referendum addresses the issue of the growing conflict between religious belief and Equalities Legislation which is striking at the Christian constitution of Scotland.

The Scottish Christian Party notes that, in the debate on Scottish independence, the public has not been notified of the consequences upon the Christian constitution of the country. This debate needs to take place urgently before a meaningful referendum can take place.

In 2000 over a million people voted in a referendum on Section 2A of the Local Government (Scotland) Act of 1986 with 87% of the ballots returned in favour of retaining Section 2A. However, the Scottish Executive and Parliament chose to ignore the wishes of the people. We are concerned that the wishes of the people expressed in referenda, mass petitions and mass marches are being ignored by Parliament and that more attention should be paid to this for the sake of good public order.

2. Civil Partnership

The Scottish Christian Party believes that the scope of the current Civil Partnership legislation is inequitable, partial, and thus unfair. It is unfair that two spinster sisters, committed to living together, cannot have the same rights as two women in a civil partnership. We will seek to widen the scope of Civil Partnership to include all people who have committed to live together as a single household. This could include friends, sisters, brothers, and a parent with his or her adult child who chose to make this commitment. The Scottish Christian Party will take the criteria for Civil Partnership out of the bedroom and into the living room - sexuality should play no role because it discriminates against these other partnerships.

Civil partnership is not marriage, and we vigorously oppose the campaign to make it so.

3. Marriages

The Scottish Christian Party opposes the concept of “no fault” and “quickie” divorce and will seek to re-establish the principle of the innocent party in a divorce being acknowledged in any divorce settlement.

Christianity promotes reconciliation, and a serious attempt at reconciliation should be demonstrated as the first step in the legal process of divorce. The Scottish Christian Party objects to the obsessive and possibly offensive practice of spouses being referred to as ‘partners’, and ‘Mrs’ being replaced by ‘Ms’ in local and national authority communications.

4. Transgender Registration

The Scottish Christian Party will seek transparency in relation to gender re-orientation. We believe that a policy that supports deception or confusion cannot be justified. We will oppose the practice of altering gender on birth certificates, or the re-issuing of a new birth certificate, which disguise gender re-orientation. A sex-changed person should be legally required to inform a fiancée and officiating minister or registrar of gender re-orientation prior to a marriage ceremony.
